The Homestead
As you approach Mangawhare you instantly become part of her. The driveway is lined by monumental old oaks that have shaded the traveller for over a century. You can hear history whispering in those leaves. We welcome you to share her beautiful history and become part of her memories.
The property is over 10 acres and surrounded by a working station. The homestead is on two acres of manicured lawns and garden that we tend following historical pictures & maps. The additional 8 acres of meadows and trees is home to rare-breed sheep, alpaca and our free range chooks. Wander through the trees, rest in a shadey hammock or sip tea from our expansive deck. Mangawhare is the perfect place to share the beauty of New Zealand's pastoral life.
The formal living room has been lovingly finished and appointed with antiques and curios from around the world. The oversized leather couch encouages you to put your feet up, lay back and take a well deserved nap. The monumental carved fireplace tells the history of Mangawhare & provides the perfect ambiance for an evening.
The dining room has been restored to her former brilliance & is again one of the centers of the home. Enjoy the warmth of the fireplace in winter or cool breezes in summer as you dine on Mangawhare Lamb, vegetables from the garden, eggs from our chooks or a fabulous wine from our Hawkes Bay collection.
We are only minutes away from our local tennis courts, swimming pool or delicious local swimming hole. De La Terre winery and bistro is only a short drive. We are the last stop before you travel across the Gently Annie....... Why not make it a piece of your history like travelers 100 years ago.
